Personality

Nyarai is very insecure. She is emotional and intuitive meaning she sometimes can be a bit dramatic seeing the situation as worse than it is. She is incredibly honest and has to always talk about her latest ailment or crisis. Excuses come as easily as breathing and yet she’s not very good at speaking up for herself. She tends to be soft spoken until she’s comfortable with you. Sometimes she meets people and opens up right away for she is a creature of the gut feeling. Either she clicks or she doesn’t. When she gets really angry, she stone walls and pretends she’s fine then gives the silent treatment. But for all her faults she can be very forgiving and patient and generous. She’ll go beyond for a friend and is very sweet and generally polite. She laughs and tells awkward jokes. She can be very serious or mischievous as she tends to enjoy a good prank or playful jibe. She is well spoken and smart with a touch of the artistic but she really loves a good story but does not have a head for math, She makes a great oral story teller but really her flair for drama and attention stems from an inner belief that she doesn’t belong.

Trade

Oral story-teller/beader. The stories she tells as a hobby but really she is currently apprenticing under an clothing artisan. They make the leather into clothing and shoes and she beads the designs into things like moccasins and shirts. She also helps make beaded jewellry.

Past

As long as she could remember her mother was the only Taur of her kind they knew of. Maybe there were more but her mother, Dayo Ma, had only known of her own mother and father. Where had their kind gone? Disappeared maybe. It didn't matter because for three generations her family had lived in an isolated corner of Viridis keeping to their own. An odd collection of zebra-taur kin staying by the rivers’ sides and grassy plains. Fishermen, basket weavers and potters; most merely fled the conflicts between the humans and taurs to the forests. The war found them and some died including her grandparents. Dayo’s herd was scattered to the wind.

So she moved to a fishing hamlet sheltered on the edge of the Hidir Forest and river. Dayo became a waitress in the local bar and lived her life less than classy. Her first born a beautiful filly,Aberash. Smart, beautiful and yet respectable. She was a horse-taur kin though with a snowy white hide and flag-like tail that made it easy to tell who her sire was. Nyarai, her second daughter had a different father...and she had no idea who. This was the story of Nyarai’s life. Somehow her mother impressed into the moon singers despite her advanced age. Eventually they moved to Ettenbel. Such a rare kind of taur and with such a pale silvery coat touched with white and light black stripes of her mixed parentage, Dayo was a pretty taur to behold. She sang with a high soprano, clear as a bell and had those doe eyes that made her seem young and innocent. Dayo tried to clean up her act but that was Nyarai’s mother. She had a good heart…but she was very selfish and her life dictated the lives of her daughters.

Nyarai became a middle child when her little sister Zuri was born, again a different father but she knew who it was. Zuri was a horse taur-kin like her sire...Her mother tended to be a hopeless romantic with the ever broken heart. It made for wonderful songs but a lousy parent with the influx of new boyfriends. The three girls were raised more by the community. Aberash could sing and play two instruments but she chose to be a healer. Aberash was a hard act to follow being beautiful and smart and caring. She was talented and cherished. Nyarai loved her but was jealous of Aberash. Nyarai could only play simple drums...she found herself lost in the middle as even little Zuri could play a lute at ten and sing. Nyarai was looking for her place in world and coming of age. She was passed the age when children usually had a gamma form. Eventually Nyarai took up with an old taur named Oni. She was an artisan specialized in leathers. Be it armor or casual work wear or fine clothes she could do it. Oni saw Nyarai telling the younger children stories and decided to teach Nyarai about story bead necklaces and the meanings in each bead. The child took to the work with nimble fingers and became Oni’s apprentice. Nyarai was not content though. Aberash was a beta and Zuri had just achieved gamma. There had to be something only she could do...

Proboscidipparion is a horse extinct representative, who lived in China during the Pliocene. It was a quite large animal, the growth of a modern horse, which made it a giant compared with its closest relatives - hipparions. The main feature of  Proboscidipparion was elongated skull with a bow, which is reminiscent of the same in the tapir. The nasal bones are shifted back, indicate the presence of elongated fleshy lips, or even a short proboscis. Molars and premolars were equipped with the large folds, which indicates that this horse was fed pretty tough vegetation. There were three functional hoof on its feet, making it possible to move on the hard ground as well as on the soft swampy ground. On the basis of occurrences of bones and animal morphology, it is assumed that Proboscidipparions prefer to live near rivers and lakes, and their way of life could be similar to the way of life of tapirs.
